Burberry: The Wheel of Fortune Holographic Installation
A holographic fortune wheel in Burberry’s Shenzhen Bay retail space. A hand gesture sets the wheel in motion, revealing a deer and a fortune as it settles.
01 / Experience
Inside Burberry's Shenzhen Bay retail space, the project deployed a 3x3 holographic imaging system. Using persistence-of-vision display, the installation presents a floating naked-eye 3D Fortune Wheel that visitors can activate with a simple hand gesture.

The Wheel of Fortune
A hand gesture spins the floating Fortune Wheel. When it settles, one of eight deer and its fortune becomes the result. A 3 × 3 holographic fan array uses persistence of vision to create the floating image.

Moments of the wheel
Highlights, motion and alpha edges were tested for the holographic display. Baked lighting and carefully treated transparency preserve the deer’s form on the transparent medium.

Unity maps hand-tracking data to torque, then uses inertia and damping to control the wheel’s settling. The interaction responds immediately and resolves naturally after the gesture ends.
