LEGO: World Play Festival, Immersive Interactive Zone
Body-driven installations and real-time visuals for LEGO World Play Festival. Visitors take part through dancing, running, basketball and collaborative drawing.
01 / Background
For LEGO World Play Festival at DreamCenter Shanghai, the project placed city culture, brick-building language, and real-time interaction inside one spatial narrative. Visitors triggered visual feedback through body movement, making the brand idea of play feel physical, visible, and responsive.

Buildings that dance with you
Shanghai landmarks begin as static brick constructions, then transform into robots that dance with the visitor. Kinect skeleton data is mapped to mechanical rotation axes. Custom IK constraints and smoothing keep the transformation and movement continuous.

Run, step, build
Four lanes turn the floor into a game. Players step on appearing LEGO bricks to score: 20 points for one player, or 40 together. Low-latency radar tracks their positions, with separate recognition logic for solo and cooperative play.

A celebration for each basket
A laser sensor beneath the hoop triggers a celebration when the ball passes through. Eight five-second animations appear on the mechanical screens, giving each successful shot an immediate visual response.

A wall to draw on together
Seven colored spray cans and a staff-controlled eraser let visitors draw together across an entire wall. The buttons transmit infrared signals to overhead cameras. Four screen regions are stitched together to keep the drawing continuous.
